Though the United States was never the focus of Maynooth's seminary efforts, and never elicited the special missionary purpose that India, China, Nigeria and (more incidentally) Australia did, several Maynooth alumni were located there at various stages of their pastoral and academic careers, and a few, both clerical and lay, had distinguished careers in the sciences, philosophy and the classics.
